Wildfires continue to rage across Manitoba, with 25 fires currently active and thousands displaced as officials respond to dangerous conditions across the province, according to the provincial government's latest fire bulletin Saturday evening.
The provincial state of emergency remains in effect, and authorities warn that human activity and hot, dry weather are fuelling extreme fire behaviour.
Fires threaten multiple communities
The Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) reports that very high to extreme fire danger levels persist across large areas of the province. Winds and possible lightning strikes are expected to worsen the situation in the coming days.
Among the fires of note:
-
Bisset is now under mandatory evacuation as Fire EA061, near Bird River, continues to grow. The fire is out of control and spans approximately 185,400 hectares.
-
Lynn Lake is also under a mandatory evacuation due to Fire NO002, which is burning just north of the town and has grown to 46,300 hectares.
-
In the West region, Cranberry Portage has issued an evacuation order due to Fire WE015, and fires near Flin Flon and Sherridon remain out of control.
-
Fires near Pimicikamak Cree Nation (Cross Lake) are also escalating, with mandatory evacuation alerts in place.
A full list of active wildfires and their current status is available on the Manitoba Wildfire Service website.
Thousands displaced, shelters set up across Manitoba
The Canadian Red Cross has registered more than 8,900 evacuees from over 3,500 households, including those from Indigenous communities and provincial evacuations. Reception centres and shelters are currently operating in Winnipeg, Thompson, Winkler, and Portage la Prairie, with Billy Mosienko Arena in Winnipeg open 24/7 to support those without other accommodations.
Evacuees are urged to register with the Red Cross either online at redcross.ca/2025manitobawildfires or by calling 1-800-863-6582.
Provincewide fire restrictions in place
Level 3 fire and travel restrictions are in effect across much of Manitoba, including all provincial parks and burn permit areas (1 to 22). Restrictions include:
-
No backcountry travel without a permit.
-
All campfires banned, including in approved pits.
-
Camping limited to developed campgrounds only.
-
All burn permits cancelled.
The province has also ordered the evacuation of Bakers Narrows Provincial Park, which remains closed due to fire activity near Flin Flon.
Emergency supports and information
The public is advised to not deliver uncoordinated donations to evacuation centres. Health-care resources, mental health supports, and Indigenous wellness resources are available at Shared Health Manitoba.
