June is Pride awareness month, and the Town of High River raised a Pride flag in support on Monday morning.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass raised the flag and proclaimed it Pride Month with a few dozen supporters on hand, cheering.

"WHEREAS, June is recognized annually as Pride Month in communities across Canada and the world to commemorate the Stonewall Riots that began on June 28, 1969, in New York City; as well as an opportunity to celebrate the diversity, resilience, and contributions of Two-Spirit people, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and lntersex or otherwise sexually or gender diverse (2SLGBTQI+) individuals; and increase people's understanding of individuals who are 2SLGBTQI+; WHEREAS, diversity is a vital and integral part of our society; WHEREAS, it is imperative that people in our community, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, feel safe and are supported by the community; WHEREAS, we support an inclusive and respectful community where all citizens can live, work and play in a safe and secure environment; WHEREAS, celebrating Pride Month influences awareness and provides support and advocacy for the 2SLGBTQI+ community, and is an opportunity to take action and engage in dialogue to strengthen alliances, build acceptance and advance equal rights. THEREFORE, I, Mayor Craig Snodgrass, and Council, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM June 1 to 30, 2025, as PRIDE MONTH in the Town of High River."
