It's Seniors' Week throughout Alberta this week, and the Town of Okotoks has numerous activities for Seniors to enjoy.
Today (June 2), the Town is hosting a Seniors' Celebration Pancake Breakfast at Viking Rentals Centre from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is live entertainment, line dancing, craft activities, door prizes, and a professional photo booth.
Mission Thrift is hosting an open house at 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m., and the Town of Okotoks is hosting a Bird Watching Walk from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
At the Bird Watching Walk, people will discover the birds of Okotoks from Conservation Educators and Historian Kathy Coutts from the Okotoks Museum and Archives through a family-friendly guided tour through the Sheep River Valley.
The walk starts at the Environmental Education Centre, beginning at 2 p.m.
On Tuesday (June 3) and Thursday (June 5), Active Balance will be hosting a Seniors' Week Free Talks, beginning at 10 a.m.
At those talks, they will discuss Muscle Activation Technique, Digestion and Detoxification, and Personal Directives and Guardianship and Mental Health for Older Adults.
Over at Venvi, the Heartland Retirement Residence, they will be hosting an Ice Cream Social on their patio from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
There will be a variety of toppings, conversation, and sunshine.
At The Point, they have a new program called Social Seniors, and people can participate in activities like card games, puzzles, arts and crafts, and more from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, June 5, for free.
From 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday (May 5), Mayor Thorn and Councillor Swendseid will participate in discussions on how Okotoks is becoming more age-friendly.
They will talk about the Age-Friendly Action Plan that is enhancing seniors' daily lives, such as improved snow clearing, accessible recreation guides, and senior-focused programs.
The Okotoks District and Seniors Club is hosting a Seniors' Week Jam Session from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, where seniors are able to sing, dance, play, or enjoy music.
