Southeastern Manitoba has finally received rain after a lengthy dry spell.
It's been a dry spring all around. According to Environment Canada, over the whole season, Steinbach received about 64 mm of precipitation, down from the normal 122 mm.
With the threat of fires, and seed in the ground, rainfall is welcomed by fire fighters and farmers alike.
According to Manitoba Agriculture Weather, across the southeast region St Pierre and Dominion City have experienced the most precipitation this Monday. St Pierre received 9.3 mm whereas Dominion city received 9.1mm.
Steinbach received the third most rain at 7.7 mm.
Communities southeast of Steinbach received less. For example, St Labre felt 2.8mm and Menisino had the least with only 1.3mm.
The following communities reported rain totals since midnight are noted below:
- Beausejour: 4.6mm
- Dominion City: 9.3
- Marchand: 5.1mm
- Menisino: 1.3 mm
- Morris: 3.3mm
- St. Labre: 2.8mm
- St. Pierre 9.3
- Stead: 4.4mm
- Steinbach: 7.7mm
- Selkirk: 4.2mm
- Winkler: 3.1mm
- Zhoda: 4.5mm
This weather system also tracked over Nopiming Provincial Park and made it's way into the Whiteshell as well where wildfires continue to burn out of control. The effect that the rain had on those fires is unknown at this point.
