Airdrie’s Urgent Care Centre will be temporarily closed overnight tonight due to scheduled electrical upgrades.
Alberta Health Services confirmed the facility, located within the Airdrie Community Health Centre, will close at 8 p.m. on June 3 and reopen at 7 a.m. on June 4.
Nursing staff will remain on site during the outage to assist with patient redirection and access to EMS.
Residents requiring emergency care will be directed to the Peter Lougheed Centre Emergency Department in Calgary, approximately 29 kilometres away, or the Didsbury District Health Services emergency department, 45 kilometres away.
EMS will remain fully operational in the community throughout the closure, AHS said.
Residents are advised to call 911 in the event of a medical emergency.
For non-urgent concerns, HealthLink is available by dialling 811 to speak with a Registered Nurse.
AHS thanked the surrounding health centres and staff for their support and expressed appreciation to the community for its patience.
The closure is expected to last one night.
Renovations to the Airdrie Community Health Centre, originally expected to wrap up by late summer, are now anticipated to be completed in the fall, according to Alberta Health Minister Adriana LaGrange.
LaGrange made the comment during a March 28 media availability in Airdrie, stating, "My understanding is it was to be complete by late summer. I think that’s going to go into fall, but that will be done."
The $8.4-million project will consolidate public health and non-urgent services into a single area, expand treatment room capacity by 37.5 per cent, and add a trauma room with negative air pressure capability.
