Road construction season is here, and Altona residents will notice a couple of high profile projects are underway.
"Road construction seems to be happening in every community, and so we're not alone in that," offered Mayor Harv Schroeder with a smile while in studio for In the Mayor's Chair. "Road construction season is here, and several projects are underway, including 14th Ave, the diamond grinding, and concrete work downtown near the post office."
Wildfires top of mind at FCM in Ottawa
Meanwhile, he has just returned from Ottawa after attending last week's Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) annual conference and trade show in Ottawa. He noted the wildfires burning across the country were at the forefront of many conversations.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by the wildfires across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta," said Schroeder. "For anyone wondering how we can help, the Province of Manitoba is strongly encouraging individuals to consider making monetary donations to organizations actively providing relief, like the Canadian Red Cross. Giving money instead of physical donations means they can respond more quickly to what the changing needs are."
Schroeder added the town is remaining prepared to help out as much as it can and if needed.
"At this time the Fire Chief has not issued a burn ban for Altona, but just as a reminder the only fires permitted within the Town of Altona are those within approved fire pits."
