Additional Winkler Road closures announced as Main Street work continues

A section of Main Street in Winkler was temporarily closed through the end of May as the city undertook curb and swale upgrades ahead of a provincial overlay project scheduled for later this summer.

The closure, which affected Main Street from Stanley Avenue to Mountain Avenue, was part of the city's preparatory work in coordination with Manitoba Highways and Transportation.

"We have started some curb and swale renewals on Main Street, and this is being done in advance of Highways and Transportation doing some Main Street work with the overlay that is going to be happening later in the summer," said Wendy Klassen, Assistant City Manager for Winkler.

Klassen added that once the City’s curb work is complete, Manitoba Highways and Transportation can move forward with the resurfacing project. "The tender is currently out... once they have filled that tender, then they'll plan for the work to get done this summer sometime."

Additional Closures

The City of Winkler has announced two additional road closures for similar preparatory work:

  • Harmony Lane, between Park Street and Main Street, will be closed starting Wednesday, June 4, and is expected to reopen on Tuesday, June 10.

  • North Railway, closed for road construction beginning Monday, June 2, is scheduled to reopen Friday afternoon, June 6.

These closures are part of the ongoing effort to prepare roadways for upcoming infrastructure improvements. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to use alternate routes and follow posted signage during the closures.
