Multiple communities north of Airdrie will be heading to the polls to select a new Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) near the end of the month.
Three different byelections will be taking place on Monday, June 23, one of those being the riding of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. The other two include Edmonton-Ellerslie and Edmonton-Strathcona.
The Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills seat became vacant earlier this month following the resignation of Nathan Cooper, the former legislature Speaker and longtime United Conservative MLA, who stepped down to serve as Alberta's delegate in Washington, D.C.
Communities north of Airdrie that are in the riding include Crossfield, Irricana, Beiseker, Carstairs, Didsbury, Olds, Acme, Three Hills and more.
According to Elections Alberta, those currently registered to run in the election include:
- Cameron Davies - Party leader for the Republican Party of Alberta
- Tara Sawyer - United Conservative Party of Canada
- Beverley Toews - Alberta New Democratic Party
Those wanting to run for MLA have until tomorrow at 2 p.m. to be nominated.
To be eligible to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on Election Day and a resident in one of the ridings.
Residents will be able to vote at any location during the advanced voting from June 17 - June 21. On election day, you must vote at your assigned location, which is currently in the process of being confirmed.
