Police seized three loaded handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and roughly $320,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine from a home in south Calgary last month.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) organized crime unit executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Seton neighbourhood on May 22, with help from the Calgary Police Service.

The following items were seized:

  • Three loaded handguns;
  • Hundreds of rounds of ammunition;
  • 2,002 grams of cocaine;
  • 2,008 grams of methamphetamine;
  • $51,000 cash.

The suspect, Kay-Jay Swann, is under a lifetime firearms prohibition stemming from a previous drug-related conviction.

Swann has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and multiple firearms-related offences.

ALERT began investigating Swann’s alleged drug trafficking activity in April.

Two of the seized handguns were previously reported stolen from Redcliff and Pincher Creek. The firearms will undergo ballistics testing at ALERT’s Provincial Firearms Lab.

"The combination of drugs and handguns yield a considerable threat to community safety. We continue to work with our partners to target dangerous offenders," said Staff Sgt. Hayley Marquis in a news release.

Anyone who suspects drug trafficking activity is asked to call their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
