The Chestermere Fire Department received a new fire truck.

Mayor Shannon Dean and City Council presented the truck, called Engine 116, on May 27. The truck will replace the department's 15-year-old primary engine.

"It's all about safety for the citizens and the firefighters," explained firefighter Brent Paquette.

The purchase had been approved by administration and council over two years ago.

"The whole thing probably took us about 4 and a half years, from the first time of going to council to try and receive a new fire engine for the city to one actually being delivered," explained Paquette.

The new engine includes improved features like airbags, anti-roll devices, a spacious cab, a different hose bed, and upgraded valves and pumps.
