It's time to check your mailbox, your 2025 property tax notice may be in there.

A 5.17 per cent property tax increase was approved by City Council earlier this year, broken down into a 3.66 per cent increase to support city infrastructure, programs and services, and 1.51 per cent allocated to the Moose Jaw Police Service.

June 30, 2025, is the deadline for payments on 2025's property taxes. A one per cent monthly penalty, compounded each month will be applied to payments received after that date. The Tax Installment Payment Plan Service (TIPPS) is offered by the City, allowing property owners to make 12 monthly payments instead of a single annual payment, for no additional charge. More information about TIPPS can be found on the City of Moose Jaw website.

In the release announcing the property tax notice mail-out, the City addressed concerns and questions about property tax reassessments, stating:

The City works with the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) to assess property values. Earlier this year, the City issued reassessment notices to property owners. Some properties saw significant changes—either increases or decreases—in their assessed values compared to previous years. However, a change in your property’s assessed value does not automatically mean your tax bill will go up or down by the same amount.

“Moose Jaw uses a revenue-neutral approach to setting tax rates,” explained Brian Acker, Director of Financial Services. “This means the total amount the City collects in property taxes doesn’t change just because property values do.”

  • Instead, what changes is how the total tax amount is distributed among property owners:
  • If your property’s value increased more than the average, you may see a higher tax bill.
  • If it increased less than the average, or decreased, you may pay less."

This approach helps ensure fairness by aligning each property’s taxes with its current market value.
