The Gray Park in Diamond Valley is having their grand opening this Saturday night.

It's happening right after the festival activities on the Turner Valley side wind down at 4 p.m.

It's located on the Black Diamond side of town, right behind the arena by the skate park and pump track.

There will be guided tours with activity stations set up and prize draws.

Mayor Barry Crane will be on hand for the grand opening, along with members of the Gray family.

Gordon Gray, who had a long career in the Oil and Gas industry, gifted the Western Sky Land Trust (WSLT) to build a new natural area park for future generations.

WSLT is a non-profit organization that works with Alberta ranchers and farmers, dedicated to protecting the natural landscapes of southern Alberta. Since starting in 2005, they have protected over 24,000 acres of land.

The Gray Park itself is situated over 30 acres of land surrounding the Sheep River. In particular, there is a 20-acre section that's a particularly sensitive cottonwood forest.

The region has been home to many beaver dams and paths over the last number of decades, and this new park will allow that to continue

The planning started in 2023 while WSLT worked in partnership with the Town of Diamond Valley.
