Peacefully on June 3, 2025 Peter Letkeman went home to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 90. Peter is predeceased by his first wife Helen and son-in-law Brian Unger and son-in-law Bruce Unger. He is survived by his wife Doreen and her family, daughter Barbara, daughter Pamela, daughter Andrea (Ken) and son Mark (Colleen), grandchildren: Mitchell (Amanda), Scott (Leslie), Lacey (Eric), Tyler (Caitlin), Ashleigh (Brad), Heidi (Doug), Jayme (Jasper), Brady, Nicole, and Carter, and great grandchildren: Peyton, Lukas, Brielle, Blake, Kenzie, Zoey, Rylee, Camden, Gracie, Emery and Beckett.

Dad was born on December 5, 1934 in Grossweide to Abram and Helen Letkeman. Dad and his siblings, Don, Anne, Rose and Ed would walk the one-mile road to school, shoes often optional, with many cousins who as you can imagine would have inspired many mischievous acts that couldn’t be spoken of at home. Dad spoke fondly of playing hockey with his older brother Don in Horndean and remembers that during snow storms, they would let go of the reins of the sleigh and the horses would find their own way home, coming to a stop right in front of the barn.

Dad married Mom, the love of his life on July 24, 1955. During his first years of marriage, along with working hard, he enjoyed playing baseball and reffing hockey which also included the Altona Maroons. In 1962 Dad started trucking with Reimer Express Lines as an owner operator and company driver. Over the years they resided in Altona, Winnipeg and eventually in 1967 moved to Bagot to pursue their mutual dream of farming. Dad was an excellent driver, but his passion was farming, which he and Mom excelled at as a team. They farmed until 1982 when rising interest rates and tough farming years forced them out of farming. It was through this humbling experience, the death of his brother Don and the persistent prayers of his wife that led to Dad committing his life to Christ and living a whole new way.

Discovering and living out the freedom found in Christ became his new passion. He followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and began ministering to others wherever he was. Back in the trucking industry, this meant reaching out to fellow drivers. He also found purpose in prison ministry and in serving those who were often overlooked and struggling. Full Gospel Businessmen was a special place for Dad where he made many good friends and grew in his Faith.
In the years that followed, Dad continued to work hard as the family grew to include in-laws and grandchildren. The journey was marked by the deep struggle of Mom’s battle with cancer, which weighed heavily on them both. Eventually, they moved to Winnipeg, where Dad transitioned off the highway and became a driver trainer. During their time in the city, they became involved in several churches and remained committed to encouraging and serving others. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before Mom’s passing. She was the thread that wove our family together and her loss was profound.

In 2002, Dad married Doreen. He continued to serve in various roles within the church and remained dedicated to his work as a driver trainer. He joyfully welcomed a second wave of grandkids building relationships with each of them. Dad was blessed with good health for many years and enjoyed a long career, finally retiring at the age of 85. In these last years, he faced numerous health challenges, but we were grateful for Doreen’s loving care and dedication as she looked after him in their home. Dad, Grandpa, Papa, Great-grandpa will be lovingly missed
