The Ste. Anne Police Service is reminding drivers about the deadly risks of speeding after a recent traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway.

According to a message posted to social media, an officer pulled over a vehicle that was travelling at 151 km/h. Police say what made the incident on Monday especially concerning was that three young children were also in the vehicle.

“This is a stark reminder that excessive speed puts lives at risk, not only the driver’s, but also innocent passengers and other road users,” the post reads.

At that speed, police say a vehicle would need nearly 189 metres to come to a stop on dry pavement — almost two football fields. They also noted that more than 100 people lose their lives on Manitoba highways each year, many of those deaths involving speed.

The driver in this case was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and a Serious Offence Notice.

Ste. Anne Police are asking all drivers to slow down and make road safety a priority, for the sake of everyone on the road.
