It was an exciting day on Wednesday for Mrs. Porter's Kindergarten class at St. Michael School.
While it was Mrs. Porter's fourth year taking part in the Fish in Schools program through the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Weyburn Wildlife Federation, it was an entirely new experience for the young students.
The teacher and her students received a delivery from the Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery of 100 rainbow trout eggs at the end of January, and they were able to release 84 fingerlings into Mainprize Lake after watching them grow in their classroom.
"We had 45 kindergarten students and about 20 parents and staff along," shared Candice Porter. "The Wildlife Federation held a barbecue for us!"
