Canada Post will soon issue its fourth set of stamps honouring Indigenous leaders in Canada.
This is part of a multi-year series that honours the lives and legacies of Indigenous leaders by immortalizing them on a stamp.
One of those they are honouring is Bruce Starlight from Tsúut'ínà Nation.
Starlight is an Elder and Knowledge Keeper who has spent over 50 years working to save his language and culture from extinction.
He was born in Tsúut'ínà Nation in 1947 and has served as a language commissioner for his community.
On top of that, Starlight was among the founders of the Tsúut'ínà Gunáhà Násʔághà, which is an institute that is dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of his language.
Known for being a skilled teacher and speaker, he developed material for Tsúut'ínà instruction.
That included making dictionaries and recordings.
Not only that, but Starlight has recently collaborated on a collection of traditional narratives and a glossary that shows Tsúut'ínà-to-English translations.
He is also a cultural mentor, advisor, and ambassador, and in 2023, Starlight received an honorary doctorate from Mount Royal University.
The new stamp will be available for sale on the Canada Post website and at select postal outlets across the Country, starting on June 20.
