A Peacock Tornadoes football team member has been recognized as one of the top 75 prospects in the country.

In February, cornerback Dax Gibney tried out for the Canadian Football Chat (CFC) Prospect Game at the Yara Center in Moose Jaw, which was one of the many stops on the CFC Evaluation Tour. The selection process featured a professional combine setting, including 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical, and broad jump events.

The roster was then announced at the end of April, when Gibney found out he'd be a part of the big game, slated for May 24 in Hamilton at Hamilton Stadium. Gibney was one of four players from Saskatchewan to earn a spot.

"I loved it. It's like that first step into pro football. It's crazy, you get to go through meetings, media days. It's unlike any other experience I've been a part of," said Gibney.

CFL panelists Davis Sanchez and Milt Stegall were the special guest head coaches. Gibney was selected by Team Stegall, which would be the winning squad by a score of 28-27. The 2008-born defensive back recorded a knockdown and four tackles throughout the game.

"You don't know when the ball is coming your way, so when it does, you have to make that play then and there, because you might not get another chance," stated Gibney.

There were two days of practice to prepare for the game. Players were also educated on how to take care of their bodies, recruitment, and how to be a part of a team.

At 6'0" and 150 pounds, Gibney is looking forward to his graduating season with the Peacock Tornadoes while also preparing for football after high school.

"I'd love to play after school and take the football journey as far as they'll take me, wherever it may be."

To show Gibney's character, he had a message for his CFC Prospect Game head coach after his son, Chase Stegall, passed away Monday morning at his residence at DePaul University in Chicago.

"Shout out to Milt Stegall for the loss of his son. Sorry for him, and my prayers go out to him."

Heading into next season, Gibney made it known to look out for him as he looks forward to a big season with the Peacock Tornadoes.
