The Manitoba government delivered a wildfire update today, June 5.
The provincial state of emergency remains in effect, with 21 communities having declared local states of emergency and more than 18,000 evacuees now registered. There are likely many more evacuees who have not registered with the Canadian Red Cross.
Evacuees are strongly encouraged to register with the Canadian Red Cross at redcross.ca/2025manitobawildfires to access support services.
To date, 26 communities across the province have been evacuated, with four others currently under short-notice evacuation alerts.
There are 27 active wildfires burning in Manitoba, several of which are threatening nearby communities.
Fire NO061, in the Bird River area is nearly 198,000 hectares and they continue to work east of Bessette and around Wallace Lake to set up and maintain value protection and install guards to protect the communities.
Fire NO002, near Lynn Lake, is now over 71,000 hectares.
Fire NO005, located near Jenpeg, Cross Lake Pimicikamak Cree Nation (Cross Lake), and Whiskey Jack Landing is over 3,000 hectares.
Fire NO010, at Split Lake to Tataskwayak Cree Nation is approximately 20,900 hectares.
Currently, the largest fire in Manitoba is in the vicinity of Flin Flon and Sheridan which is over 309,000 hectares.
Fire NO025, located near Pukatawagan (Mathias Colomb Cree Nation), is approximately 9,800 hectares, which has decreased in the last few days.
Fire NO028 near Bakers Narrows Provincial Park is estimated to be 4,700 hectares on the Manitoba side of the border.
The Government of Manitoba has launched the Manitoba Ready Portal at mbready.manitoba.ca, designed to support evacuees, those in wildfire zones, and anyone else affected by the ongoing fires. The portal includes up-to-date wildfire maps, shelter information, and access to important services and resources.
Currently, 17,132 hotel rooms have been allocated for evacuees, with another 200 expected to become available in the coming days. Manitoba has also secured an additional 1,500 hotel rooms in Ontario.
Manitoba has deployed more than 650 people to support the firefighting efforts, with approximately 175 firefighters from out of province, including some from the United States who have arrived today.
The province is continuing to respond to concerns from the Flin Flon area by implementing a plan to provide meals for firefighters.
Manitobans who wish to support those impacted can donate to the Canadian Red Cross, with every dollar matched by the Manitoba government.
Today has also been named Manitoba Day of Caring for Wildfire Evacuees, which is a collaborative effort between radio stations across Manitoba. Funds raised during the radiothon will go directly to the Canadian Red Cross 2025 Manitoba Wildfires Appeal.
