A fuel tanker fire that shut down westbound Highway 1 at Stoney Trail NW on Thursday has been cleared, according to 511 Alberta.

At 10:44 p.m., 511 Alberta reported the incident had been cleared westbound past the junction with Stoney Trail NW.

Earlier in the day, Calgary police said all four westbound lanes of Highway 1 from Stoney Trail NW were closed and that traffic was being diverted from Highway 1 onto northbound and southbound Stoney Trail.

Police also said vehicles coming from both directions on Stoney Trail were being diverted and could not access westbound Highway 1.

At 6:39 p.m., Calgary police confirmed that one westbound lane had reopened. Eastbound lanes remained open and were unaffected.

Drivers had been urged to use alternate routes during the closure.
