When the first bull bursts from the chute, the energy at the MacGregor Stride Centre is electric. For nearly three hours, fans are treated to non-stop action, as riders test their grit against powerful animals in one of the region's most anticipated events. But the North Norfolk Bull Bash on June 7 is more than just a rodeo – it’s a cherished community gathering and an essential fundraiser that supports vital local services.

"It's a high-energy, family-oriented event," says Chris Leckie, one of the main organizers. “Years ago, we felt something was missing in town. We brought back the Bull Bash, and everyone’s embraced it. We’re proud to keep the tradition alive with the help of our sponsors.”

More Than Bulls: A Full Evening of Entertainment

With heart-pounding rides and a passionate crowd, the bull riding is the centrepiece – but not the only draw. Prairie Line will cap off the evening with a live concert that promises to keep the energy high. “They’re a rising star and come highly recommended,” says Leckie. “We’re excited to have them close out the night.”

Guests can also enjoy a variety of food and treats prepared by the local Kinettes, who manage all the kitchen and food prep. It’s a taste of small-town hospitality that keeps bellies full and spirits high.

Supporting Local Heroes

Bull Bash isn’t just a great night out – it’s also one of the MacGregor Fire Department’s most important fundraisers. “Without this event, we wouldn’t be able to bring in the equipment our department needs,” Leckie explains. “It also helps other groups involved. The community's continued support speaks volumes.”

Organized by dedicated leaders – Leckie, Joanne Armstrong of the North Norfolk Ag Society, Angela Leckie with the MacGregor Kinettes, and Karla Gurke from Heartland Rec – the event brings together more than 50 volunteers from across user groups, each contributing to its success.

Rodeo Vibes and Community Pride

While the lineup of riders is still being finalized by Crossfire Bull Riding, there’s always a chance that local talent will hit the arena. And the bulls? According to Leckie, “They were wild last year – really tough for riders to stay on. It was amazing to watch.”

For first-timers, the best advice is simple: “Just be there. Get as close as you can to the ring. The expressions on people’s faces say it all,” says Leckie. “There’s no dress code. Some folks go full western, others come as they are. We’re all country at heart.”

Don’t Miss the Ride

Now in its fifth year, Bull Bash continues to grow in scale and excitement. With unbeatable rodeo action, local flavour, and lively after party, it’s quickly become a must-see on the summer calendar. “We're really looking forward to this year,” Leckie says. “It’s going to be a great show.”

The North Norfolk Bull Bash hits the MacGregor Stride Centre on Saturday, June 7. Doors open at 5:00 pm, and bulls buck at 7! To learn more, check out the event’s Facebook page.
