The bats went to work big time this weekend for the East Central 18U AAA Red Sox, both on the road and at home.
On Saturday, the Red Sox trekked to Yorkton for a pair against the Parkland Expos. Cade Armstrong led the way in Game 1, driving in four runs on a pair of hits on their way to a mercy rule 12-1 win after 5 innings.
The Red Sox were first on the board with singles from Blake Morelli and Taylor Coleman each driving in a run. They followed that up with an explosive 5th inning, pounding in 5 runs on four hits, among them a triple by Dayne Schommer and a Jacob Trann single. Pryor Dyck notched the win on the mound for the East Central side.
While Game 2 against the Expos was a bit closer affair, the Red Sox were never in jeopardy after a stellar start in the second inning on the way to a 9-3 finish. An error cost the Expos their opening run. That was followed by a single, courtesy of Jacob Trann, another costly Expos error, and a Cade Britz single, each good for a run.
The Red Sox put another pair up in the second and a trio in the 6th to complete their scoring. Dayne Schommer took the mound for the Red Sox for the full six-inning outing.
It was back to James Korte Field in Muenster on Sunday for a windy wind-up against the Swift Current Kal Tire 57’s. Again, the East Central bats were sure, making quick work of the opposition in Game 1 with a 13-3 victory. The Red Sox defense played a big part holding the ‘57s to just two hits.
The ‘57s fared no better in the second Sunday game as the Red Sox topped the score board 16-6 in a shortened battle. Again, it was a fast start at the plate when Cade Armstrong’s sacrifice fly resulted in two runs followed up by another run on Dayne Schommer’s single in the bottom of the first.
The hits kept rolling as the Red Sox put up another 6 runs in the second and third innings. The ‘57s looked to rally with a trio of runs in each of the third and fourth innings, but that was the sum of their office as the Red Sox countered with six runs of their own in the following two innings to bring the proceedings to an end.
The quad wins this weekend put the East Central Red Sox at the top of the pack in the SPBL 18U AAA Division and perfect at home. Next chance to catch the Red Sox at home is this Thursday night, 6:30 pm, when they take on the Saskatoon Cubs.
