Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a man was randomly assaulted at the Forks.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday, Winnipeg Police say they were called to the Forks Market, where they found a 30-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.
According to witnesses, the victim was assaulted and knocked to the ground by a random man who then continued to attack the victim until he lost consciousness. He then stole an item belonging to the victim before walking away.
The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.
Police believe the suspect then threw the stolen item at a second victim, a woman walking a dog near the Riverwalk, and the WPS is now asking that woman to come forward, as they believe she may have information that can help with their investigation.
The suspect, who is described as an Indigenous male between 25 and 35 years old with a medium build, was last seen in the area of Bonnycastle Park near Assiniboine Avenue and Garry Street.
At the time of the assault, he was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, a New York Yankees black baseball cap and black shoes.
The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
Anyone who was at the Forks and witnessed the assault or anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
