Rob Carnie - Infrastructure Renewal update and capital projects. Man, there's a lot of stuff going on around the city of Moose Jaw. We're making it happen and making things better. Frankly, we've said it before, short term pain for long term gain, things are getting better.
Maryse Carmichael - It is good to see all the construction crews out there. It's great to see that we're already in Phase 10 of the Infrastructure Renewal Program and the (Cast Iron Replacement Program).
So, for this season, we're in week five. We're doing a lot of work both on South Hill, and downtown on Fairford St.—the 0 block of Fairford and on the 100 block—it's a total of 1.4 kilometers that we're renewing this year.
So yes, some short term pain, but the absolutely long-term gain when you're looking at the pipes. If you have a chance to go when the pipes are out of the ground, you can see the damage to those pipes.
We need to renew them and now is the perfect time. And at the same time, well, we get a new coat of asphalt on top of those streets, so that is always positive.
Rob - Yeah, taking a look and over the years I've seen a number of those cast iron water main pipes, and you think they look like they've been underground for hundreds of years.
Maryse - Maybe some of our residents will remember that we had a wood pipe that was discovered on South Hill actually. So yes, some of them have been there for a long time.
Rob - The communications department at City Hall has been doing a good job and updating us weekly on the progress that we're making with all of these projects.
We should make sure people know that we can go to moosejaw.ca and get an update at least once a week.
Maryse - And on our brand-new Capital Projects web page! Check Moosejaw.ca and you will have up-to-date information, especially on the road closures. We see there's, there's some road closures and if you want to ensure that you're fully up to date on what is happening, visit the capital projects update page.
