St. Margaret School’s faith group, the Faith Avengers, is made up of students from Grade 3 and up who are all about faith, service and giving back to the community.

This year, the group started with 49 students, although that number dwindled to 32 as the weather got nicer.

Grade 2 teacher Madame Lisa Ethier, along with teachers Madame Angela Bourdeau and Madame Chelsey Boucher, assembled the group. Ethier teared up as she talked about the great group of students they have.

“They are a group of kids who always want to make other people’s lives better, lots of smiles and lots of pats on the back,” Ethier said.

She added that it also wouldn’t be possible without the support of the school administration and staff.

Recently, the group wrapped up one of their biggest projects: fundraising to create goodie bags for the pediatric ward at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. The bags included colouring books, toys, washcloths and more.

The students raised over $1,100 for the project since February and put together 50 goodie bags that they are delivering to the hospital on Thursday. They raised the funds through Freezie sales, chocolate egg sales and a Valentine’s Day sale, among other fundraisers.

Ethier said there will likely be leftovers from this project, which they hope to use to create goodie bags for the Transition House.

“I think what we’re going to do is we’re going to fill bags for women at the Transition House. It’ll be a different kind of bag probably. A little bit bigger, maybe not toys, but things they might need when they get there,” Ethier said.

This year, the group is also planning a trip to Providence Place to visit with the residents.

The Faith Avengers are always on the lookout for donations. Those interested can call the school at 306-694-4044 and ask for administrative assistant Edna, who will help them out. Donations can be anything someone might need if they are rushing out the door with nothing.
