The East Central 18UAAA Red Sox made a valiant comeback effort last night in Muenster against a five-run deficit to the Saskatoon Cubs but fell just short with an 8-6 final score.
After a double by the Cubs Reese Brons opened the scoring with one run, the Red Sox rallied off a Blake Morelli single to take a 2-1 lead.
Cubs Trenton Kooy sent a solo shot over the ivy in the 3rd to tie it up. An error in the 4th gave the Cubs another leg up with a single and a 3-2 lead.
The top of the 7th produced four big runs for the Cubs, and the Red Sox had to muster the offence with a walk-in run and a double by Graydn Wilson, but it wasn't enough with the Red Sox finishing just shy in the 8-6 loss.
A Fathers’ Day double header is up next at James Korte Field on Sunday, complete with a canteen special brisket with mac and cheese to celebrate Dad. Game time is 12 noon.
