The Strathmore Library hosted its first summer fest.

On June 13, Strathmore residents gathered outside of the library to enjoy hot dogs, participate in outdoor activities, and register for programs on Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event featured cornhole, bubble sticks, and Sorry, Twister and Snakes and Ladders play matts for children. Some featured booths were the Early Literacy Program, the Adult Literacy Program, the Summer Reading Program, the Wheatland Youth Network, Strathmore Area and Adult Inclusive Learning, Five for Life, and Canadian Parents for French.

"We thought we'd showcase all there is to do in the summer from a literacy perspective and get people excited about participating," said Rachel Dick Hughes, director of library services.

The library plans to host this again next year as an annual event.

"I'm really pleased with it," Hughes added. "As a library team of staff and volunteers it is really fun to work together on throwing a party for everybody. We love doing that."

The library also noted that children who cannot participate in the weekly programs can still log their reading progress at home and win prizes.
