A woman is dead after a crash in Drumheller over the weekend.
Officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and semi-truck at around 4 p.m. on Saturday (June 14). The crash was on Highway 9 near Highway 836.
"The semi and the pick-up truck caught fire, with the semi being fully engulfed in the north ditch and the pick-up being in the middle of the highway," wrote Drumheller RCMP.
A third vehicle, an SUV, went into the ditch to avoid collision.
"Upon arrival, officers located a lone occupant trapped in the pick-up truck. Immediately bystanders used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the pick-up truck while a local Hutterite colony immediately brought a water truck to help douse the flames from the semi."
Fire departments from Rockyford and Rosebud also assisted in putting out the fire.
Despite their efforts, the pick-up driver, a female resident of Airdrie, was declared dead at the scene.
"The male driver of the semi was transported by EMS with minor injuries, and the driver of the SUV was un-injured," added RCMP.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with more information on the crash can contact Drumheller RCMP at 403-823-7590.
