Each Tuesday this summer, the Kindersley and District Co-op is hosting a series of $5 community lunches. Held at the Kindersley Senior Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., these lunches are part of a grassroots initiative to support local organizations through good food and good company.
Colby Kimball, a marketing intern with the Co-op, explained that the weekly lunches are about giving back. “The barbecues are a way for us to give back to the community,” he said. “We're putting on $5 lunches, your lunch, snacks and drinks, and those proceeds go to various community groups.”
This year, the Co-op is making an effort to reach a wider range of local organizations. While some groups may be returning from last year’s lineup, the majority are new to the program. Beneficiaries for this summer include Kindersley’s Playcare Children’s Services, the Kindersley & District Museum, Kindersley Inclusive Summer Camps, Eaton School, the West Central Early Childhood Intervention Program, Heritage Manor, the Eatonia and District Recreation Board, Kindersley 365 Air Cadets, Pathway 2 Wellness, and the Kindersley and District Food Bank.
The menu isn’t just about hot dogs and burgers, though you’ll find those at the popular barbecues. The lunch offerings rotate through a few meal types: a classic hotdog and burger barbecue, taco-in-a-bag, chili and a bun, and a brunch-style pancake breakfast. Each meal is priced at $5, making it an affordable way for locals to support a cause while enjoying a hearty lunch.
The summer wraps up on September 16 with the final lunch and Co-op's Fuel Good Day, where 10 cents per litre of fuel sold will be donated.
Whether you’re hungry for lunch or simply eager to support community initiatives, the Co-op’s weekly lunches offer a way to connect, give back, and enjoy the summer.
