A 67-year-old man is dead after being struck by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning on Highway 1 near McGuckin Road in Headingley.

The collision occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, prompting a response from Headingley RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, and the local fire department.

RCMP say the pedestrian, described as a transient male, was walking along the highway when he was hit by a westbound pickup truck.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old woman from Winnipeg, was not injured.

The highway was closed for several hours as police and a forensic collision reconstructionist investigated. It reopened to traffic at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
