More wildfire evacuees are heading home.

As of 6:45 p.m. on Monday, the mandatory fire evacuation for Tastaskweyak Cree Nation was lifted.

Officials in the community say the fire has been contained and there is only one area of concern left.

The water treatment plant was back up and running on Sunday, and Manitoba Hydro crews will start working on damaged poles in the area beginning on June 18.

The Red Cross has provided air purifiers and generators to the northern community in anticipation of their return.

Evacuated residents are spread between Thompson, Brandon, Winnipeg and Niagara Falls.

"It's been a long two weeks, and we are very excited and happy that everyone can return home," said officials in a post on the Tastaskweyak Cree Nation Facebook page.

Arrangements for buses and planes to get evacuees back are currently underway.
