Lightning fueled fires near the Alberta border Friday night weren't just contained to an oilfield battery site east of Provost, as strikes also caused a large brush and grass fire, involving bales, in the Macklin area.
The Macklin & District Fire/Rescue team was dispatched at 6:49 PM on Friday night after reports of a lightning strike. They were joined in their response by the Luseland Fire Department and also the landowner as the fire was contained by roughly 9:00 PM.
As Macklin firefighters were headed home, a call for mutual aid came in from Provost regarding the oil facility fire west of Macklin. Crews joined the nearby call and provided assistance for nearly 3 hours, eventually returning back to service early Saturday morning at 12:46 AM.
Sharing the call to social media, Macklin and area residents commended the emergency teams for their quick response in these dry conditions. Find more photos from the weekend response through the fire department's Facebook page HERE.
