June 11 marked the Battle West Athletics district junior golf tournament, taking place in Kerrobert.
The Battle West conference features athletes locally from inside the Living Sky School Division. From there the competition radius ranges up around the North Battleford area, bringing a wide range of golfers in to compete at the 9-hole course in Kerrobert.
51 golfers in all competed. Jr. Female districts saw two local medals as Brynley Neumeier won gold and Natalie Wuttunee won bronze, and Elena Roa-Pena from JPII won silver.
In the Jr. Male bracket Unity's Dax Walz and Kerrobert's Emerson Zerr tied in third place to each earn bronze, the gold medal went to Shae Maunala, Henry Silver fittingly taking home silver.
While Wuttunee and Neumeier finished on the podium, their performances were not enough for a top three finish in the final team standings as North Battleford Comp. won bronze, Maymont won silver, and Spiritwood took home the gold.
On the boy's side Unity's team finished with bronze and Kerrobert with silver thanks to the good scores from Walz, Zerr, and the rest of the Warriors and Rebels in attendance, JPII taking home the gold with the first and second place finishes.
That puts an end to the junior golf season, the school campaign a launching point in summer tournaments for many young golfers. Coming up in September at the start of a new school year will be the district championships for senior golfers, provincials set to follow by the end of the month.
