This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one in the town of Yellow Grass. The festivities start on Saturday with the annual Yellow Grass Summer Solstice, featuring a car show, cornhole tournament and live entertainment.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there, as on Sunday, June 22nd, the Yellow Grass United Lutheran Partnership (YGULP) will also be hosting live entertainment with an afternoon concert in Allen Park. Lorry Steer, secretary with the Yellow Grass United Lutheran Partnership, says it’ll be a fun day of live music, food, and good company.

“On Sunday at 2:00 in the afternoon, Jeffrey Straker is coming to Allen Park, which is down on the Main Street of Yellow Grass. He's going to perform a concert there and in conjunction with this, we're having a lunch. If anybody wants to come for chili and a bun and a drink and a slice of cake, that will be happening probably around 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.”

This is the third year that the Yellow Grass United Lutheran Partnership have held this concert, with great receptions from not only those in Yellow Grass but also in the surrounding communities including Weyburn, Milestone, Lang, etc. The concert is free to attend; however, it is a free will offering so donations are welcome to help cover the cost of the live music and support the organization.

With weather being unpredictable in Saskatchewan and the weekend forecast bringing possible rain to the southeast, Steer says they’ll have to move the concert out of the park and down to the church at 219 Souris Street in Yellow Grass.

“We just want people to come and listen. If it does happen to rain, which the forecast looks like it; it's not looking good right now, we do have our church just two doors down so we'll probably move it there.”

The lunch that will be on site is chili and a bun, drink, cookie or a slice of cake and costs $10. They encourage those interested in attending to bring their own lawn chairs as seating in Allen Park is limited.
