A Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was issued on Tuesday morning (June 17) has been expanded to cover all of Foothills County.

The initial advisory was sent out just after 11:30 a.m., and included all of Vulcan County, as well as Footihlls County near Blackie.

At around 3:15 p.m., Environment Canada issued another watch, this time including other areas of the county:

   Foothills Co. near Priddis and Brown-Lowery Prov. Park, Alta. (072521)
   Foothills Co. near Diamond Valley, Alta. (072522)
   Foothills Co. near Longview and Eden Valley Res., Alta. (072523)
   Foothills Co. near Okotoks and De Winton, Alta. (072531)
   Foothills Co. near High River and Aldersyde, Alta. (072532)
   Foothills Co. near Cayley, Alta. (072533)
   M.D. of Willow Creek near Nanton and Parkland, Alta. (072541)
   M.D. of Willow Creek near Claresholm and Stavely, Alta. (072542)

According to Environment Canada, conditions could see the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued further to the west, in the Rocky View County area, with potential for "up to toonie size hail and heavy rain."

Environment Canada is reminding residents to seek shelter if they hear thunder.
