Strathmore's A&W is hosting a fundraiser to help a resident in need.

Earlier this year, 29-year-old Ryan Grasdahl suffered life-threatening injuries during an accident in Tampa, Florida. It wasn't until June 5 that Grasdahl was returned to Canada, where he remains at the Foothills Hospital.

To help raise money for his family, the local A&W will be donating $2 from every Teen Burger sold between June 20 and 22.

"We're family friends. He grew up playing hockey with my brother," said general manager Kyra Peters. "I've known him for at least 15 years."

Grasdahl was very involved in Strathmore's community, playing four seasons with the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings, and minor hockey for the Strathmore Storm. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and Holy Cross Collegiate.

Peters added that she was devastated to hear about Grasdahl's accident and the grief it's had on his family.

"The medical bill in the States is just astronomical, so I knew I needed to do whatever I could to help, and this is the easiest way I could think to help," added Peters.

The manager added she has been giving the family space as she imagines they're overwhelmed with the influx of help from across the community.

"I'm extremely grateful to be able to do this. Every time I talk to them it's a hard, teary-eyed conversation."

Peters asked that those who plan on ordering in bulk call ahead to prevent long wait times.

Those who are unable to attend the fundraiser can donate to the families GoFundMe page.
