Maggie Kosterewa, a Strathmore resident, is now being prioritized for a multi-visceral transplant.

Kosterewa and her mother Jennifer Therriault took to social media to announce the good news.

"I got a phone call from the transplant team, and I am now actively live on the transplant list and number one across Alberta and Canada," said Kosterewa. "Any day now I could get a phone call for organs at any time."

Kosterewa is in need of several organs, including a pancreas, stomach, small bowel, liver, portal vein, and a part of her esophagus.

Kosterewa has dealt with a series of health problems since early 2021 when she was diagnosed with necrotizing pancreatitis. She has been returning to the hospital regularly since then, and in April 2024 the family was told about Kosterewa's need for the transplant, which will cost the family between $30,000 and $50,000.

A family friend created a GoFundMe to cover the costs, which has raised over $17,000 of its $50,000 goal.

"I will always be on the list now until I get the transplant or another alternative. In two years, if I don't get the transplant, I'll go live across North America," said Kosterewa, adding that she's excited knowing that she could now have her transplant at any moment.

"It's been a long time waiting."

Other efforts have been made to raise funds for the transplant, including shirts and hoodies featuring Kosterewa's tattoos and several benefit concerts.
