Kindersley Composite School honoured its top students this week, handing out dozens of academic, athletic and leadership awards as part of its annual awards ceremony.
Students in Grades 9 to 12 were recognized for their achievements during the 2024-25 school year, with awards presented across academics, arts, sports, and school spirit.
The SCC Academic Awards, presented by the School Community Council, recognized students in Grades 10 to 12 with a 90 per cent average or higher in their top eight classes. Grade 9 students who achieved a Level 4 in their core classes also earned the honour.
In Grade 9, 15 students were celebrated, including Bentley Atkinson, Sadie Coles and Kyle San Andres. Higher grade recipients included Ava Pennington, Braelynn McBride and Ayla Stevens.
The John Veller Award, honouring a student excelling in trades classes with high grades, problem-solving skills and a generous spirit, was awarded to An De Baerdemaeker.
The Spirit of KCS Award, recognizing leadership, work ethic and community building, went to Bentley Atkinson (Grade 9), Javier Gonzalez (Grade 10), Nevaeh Bitz (Grade 11), and Karlee Schwenger (Grade 12).
Two prestigious honours, the Gloria Clarke-Hayden Award and Susan Thibert Award, were each given to one junior and one senior student. Cole Hawken and Emma Torrens received the Clarke-Hayden honour for responsibility, positivity and care. Kenna Chester and Irish De Guzman received the Thibert Award for academic excellence and community involvement.
Graduating student Ava Watchel earned the Governor General’s Academic Medal, recognizing the highest academic average over her high school career.
Drama awards included Outstanding Acting and Vocals for Sadie Coles and Kyle San Andres, while Parker Bellisle was noted for Dedication to Character and Nicko Eden as Backstage Hero.
On the athletic side, students from nearly every team were recognized. Notable recipients included:

Several students were also recognized for their contributions to Remembrance Day art and music, with Kyle San Andres, Adele Pincemin, Kaitlyn Herner and Irish De Guzman receiving top band honours.
The event closed with recognition of staff years of service, capping off a celebration of dedication, growth and achievement at KCS.
