Eaton Schools' shop class started the year with woodworking and building little projects, but quickly got bored or finished too early. So, their teacher, Clint Hayes, decided to try something new.

This year's class is helping Clint with one of his trucks that has a story.

“It's a 1952 GMC that I'm putting on a 1987 Chevy S-10. So, the ‘52 GMC was my great uncle's truck, and the ‘87 S-10 was my uncle's truck, so a little bit of family history in there.” Hayes said.

He currently has students working on trimming the body of the vehicle to the right size, which has the students learning how to grind and weld. He wants them to learn more mechanical skills to expose his students who have an interest in those trades.

The biggest challenge he and his class are facing is the lack of keeping everybody involved at the same time and the lack of space that they have in the shop.

“ I'm noticing right now is just keeping everybody involved at the same time. It gets a little bit tricky when you're dealing with limited space and limited resources. It's kind of tricky keeping everybody working at the same time.”

Hayes does not believe they will get the project done this year, letting it become a multi-year project, and letting others help. He believes it will be done as early as the end of 2026 or mid-2027.
