Starting Wednesday, Southern Manitoba entered a much more active weather pattern than in recent weeks. That from CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner.
"On Wednesday we saw the first widespread risk of severe thunderstorm activity, with all of Southern Manitoba having the ingredients necessary," he explained. "We did see a couple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued Wednesday afternoon and early evening for parts of Western Manitoba, along with sporadic non-severe thunderstorms across a wider swath of Southern Manitoba. A warm, and somewhat moist, airmass was in place yesterday over Southern Manitoba, with instability in the atmosphere building alongside daytime heating. The trigger was a weak cold front slumping southward across the province."

Sumner noted the severe thunderstorm risk will continue for Thursday, with southwestern Manitoba the most likely area that could see that development.
"Warm and moist air will be in place, once again, over Southern Manitoba, with daytime heating adding to the instability in the atmosphere," he explained. "A low coming off the southern Rockies will quickly move across the Southern Prairies today, and it could be the trigger to kick off storm development tonight and into the early morning hours of Friday."
Daytime highs today will be around 24, but feel like 27 with the humidity factored in.
The cloud cover will clear off this morning, with a mainly sunny day expected afterward.
