The Winnipeg Police Service is reminding Winnipeggers who use lockers in the many fitness centres across the city to be extra cautious.

Between April 28 and May 30, Winnipeg police received nearly 20 reports of locker break-ins at fitness facilities across the city.

While the break-ins took place across the city, there was a large number of cases in the Leila North neighbourhood.

In most cases, the victims had their wallets, keys, ID, and cellphones stolen, and in one case, keys stolen from a locker were used to access a vehicle in the parking lot.

To help prevent future break-ins, the Winnipeg Police Service encourages people to secure their lockers with a high-quality lock, leave valuables like wallets or purses at home and keep keys or cellphones on hand while exercising.

No arrests have been made in connection with these break-ins.

The investigation is ongoing.
