This weekend’s Guy Weadick Rodeo in High River has been postponed due to heavy rainfall in the forecast.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Special Weather Statement early Thursday morning (June 19), warning that the region could receive between 50 and 100 millimetres of rain by Sunday.
The rodeo is now scheduled to take place from Aug. 8 to 10.
"We're incredibly disappointed, but we're already excited about what's going to be an awesome, warmer weekend of fun," reads a statement from the High River Agricultural Society. "We really hope everyone can join us then for what promises to be an unforgettable rodeo experience."
The society says the safety and well-being of livestock and rodeo crews is its top priority. Organizers will be reaching out to guests, suppliers, sponsors and partners in the coming days to coordinate around the new dates.
