With significant rainfall expected throughout Southern Alberta this weekend, Vulcan County is urging residents to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves and their property.

Heavy rain is expected with amounts ranging between 40 to 80 mm by Saturday evening.

To prepare for the event, residents are encouraged to clear debris from gutters, downspouts, and drainage pathways on their property and notify the county of any blocked culverts, flooded roadways, or unsafe conditions.

During heavy rainfall, low-lying areas, roadways, and ditches could experience localized flooding. Residents are asked to avoid walking or driving through standing or moving water, as it can be deeper than it appears and hide debris under the surface.

When travelling, drivers are reminded to take caution and reduce speed when necessary, as conditions and visibility can change rapidly.

Vulcan County will monitor conditions and respond to any hazards as needed.
