A brief early morning pursuit on May 17th led to multiple fines and a vehicle impound after Winkler police encountered a suspicious vehicle. 

At approximately 2:24 a.m., an officer on patrol spotted the vehicle speeding. When police attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled.  

“Our officer located it shortly afterwards, and it was it was abandoned,” said Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt. “A group of people ran from the vehicle. They were located. One of the people who had run admitted to having been driving the vehicle.”  

The driver was found to be disqualified and was issued a $672 ticket for driving while disqualified and a $298 ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle. 

“He was also issued a warning for flight by a police officer.” Chief Hunt elaborated. 

Police impounded the vehicle for 30 days. No further charges were laid.
