Following a robbery involving a machete, a teenager was seriously injured.

On June 13, shortly after 7:30 p.m. near Portage Avenue and St. James Street, Winnipeg Fire Paramedics were responding to an unrelated call when they noticed a group of youths nearby. They witnessed one youth assault another with a machete and immediately requested police assistance.

The teen sustained significant injuries and was located by West District patrol officers. During the assault, the teenager had his personal property stolen.

He was transported to the hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable condition, where he was treated for life-altering injuries.

Police are working to identify everyone involved as several other youths were reported to be involved.

The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has taken over the investigation and are asking anyone who was in the area and believes they may have witnessed the assault to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact MCU at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
