A quiet rural property in the RM of Glenella-Lansdowne turned into a crime scene early Wednesday morning, and RCMP are now working to track down the masked intruders responsible.
Neepawa RCMP respond to the call around 1:05 a.m. on June 19 after a report of a home invasion.
Officers say two masked suspects forced their way into a house, only to be confronted by the armed homeowner.
The confrontation prompted the intruders to flee the scene, but not before one of them fired a gun into the side of the home.
Police confirm that no one was injured, though the gunfire did cause minor damage to the house.
Believed to be a random act
Investigators say the suspects were caught on surveillance video. They're believed to have taken off in a pickup truck, described as a GMC with a white hood and roof and dark-coloured sides. The vehicle reportedly heads east on Provincial Road 261.
Staff Sergeant Andrew Cowan with the Spruce Plains RCMP calls the situation troubling.
“This is a very concerning incident,” remarks Cowan. “Our officers are working to identify the suspects so that they can be arrested and charged for this violent crime. We urge all residents in the area to immediately call 911 if they see any suspicious activity on their property and are concerned for their safety.”
Public help needed
RCMP believe the incident was random but say they are treating it seriously.
They're asking anyone with information to reach out to the Neepawa detachment at 204-476-7340.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or manitobacrimestoppers.com.
Neepawa RCMP continue to investigate.
