Original story:

RCMP are investigating a double homicide following a disturbing early-morning incident in the normally quiet community of Victoria Beach.

Around 2:00 a.m., Powerview RCMP responded to a report of a possible shooting on Hampton Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of a 29-year-old man from Winnipeg and a 41-year-old woman from Victoria Beach. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated as a double homicide, and the initial findings suggest the attack was targeted.

Investigators believe the suspect fled the area before police arrived, driving a white truck southbound on Highway 59.

“We know that this incident occurring in such a small community will be concerning to many,” said Sergeant Evan Willcock of Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services. “We want to reassure residents as well as cottagers who may be heading up to that area this weekend, that these murders appear to be targeted, and at this time we believe the risk to public safety is low.”

Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services, Forensic Identification Services, and Powerview RCMP are actively working on the case. Police are asking anyone with information, particularly those who were in the area around the time of the incident, to come forward.

Tips can be provided by calling the Powerview RCMP detachment at 204-367-8728, contacting Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or submitting a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
