The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation is celebrating more than just fundraising milestones — it’s honouring a legacy. Executive Director Lori Gervais joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to reflect on the Foundation’s origins, the emotional return of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and how decades of community support have brought Estevan to the brink of a major healthcare achievement.

“We are at $5,870,000. It's craziness. We're $629,000-ish away from our goal, and we've been at this for 14–16 months. It's been a crazy ride.” — Lori Gervais

The Foundation’s Roots

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation was created in the 1990s when the Sisters of St. Joseph left Estevan. Though often associated with the hospital itself, the Foundation operates independently, focusing on fundraising for equipment, facility upgrades, and physician recruitment.

“We fundraise to support the continued development of services at St. Joseph’s Hospital. We are there to expand facilities, much-needed equipment — we bridge the gap.” — Lori Gervais

Honouring the Sisters of St. Joseph

Three Sisters of St. Joseph travelled from Ontario to Estevan to be honoured with the Trailblazers Award at the Women of Distinction event. Their visit was deeply meaningful to the community — and to the Sisters themselves.

“They sent us a wonderful thank-you letter… and they donated to the MRI project, which was phenomenal.” — Lori Gervais

Community Support in Action

The campaign has been powered by a wide range of community contributions:

  • Local R.M.s: $1.4 million from regional municipalities
  • Grassroots efforts: Lemonade stands, quilt raffles, estate gifts
  • Recent events:
    • Charity BBQ & e-bike raffle (winner: Lori Lehman)
    • Elks Golf Tournament – July 19 at Hidden Valley
    • Fundraising at Boundary Dam (updates expected in September)
    • Western Financial campaign led by Sherry Goudy
    • Speedway Mack Auctions in partnership with the estate of Raymond Lisafeld

MRI Campaign Nearing Completion

The Foundation’s current campaign — to bring MRI services to Estevan — is within reach.

  • Goal: $6.5 million
  • Raised so far: $5.87 million
