Residents of the Elmwood-East Kildonan Ward will head to the polls this fall to vote on a new city councillor.
The seat was left vacant after Jason Schreyer, who had held the seat since 2014, died suddenly.
Schreyer was the son of former Manitoba premier and former governor general Ed Schreyer. Before entering municipal politics, he worked with NDP MLAs Steve Ashton and Jim Maloway, and remained deeply connected to the provincial NDP throughout his career.
Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for a candidate on Oct. 25, 2025.
The list of candidates is not yet available.
Meanwhile, the by-election will also allow residents to vote for a new school trustee for the Louis Riel School Division Ward 3 and a school trustee for the Pembina Trails School Division Ward 1.
Information on the nomination process for those interested in becoming a candidate, who is eligible to vote, how to cast a ballot, and relevant legislation about the election is available online at winnipeg.ca/byelection2025.
