Rain over the weekend has allowed people to enjoy fires in several counties in Southern Alberta.

The M.D. of Willow Creek had initially moved to a Fire Restriction on May 28, causing all existing Fire Permits to be cancelled, with no new ones being issued.

Due to the precipitation the area got, Willow Creek had downgraded the Fire Restriction to an Advisory on June 20.

As a result of that downgrade, burn permits are being issued once again.

While conducting permitted burning in Willow Creek, they are reminding residents that an adequate water supply must always be available to ensure the fires can be controlled or extinguished if necessary.

On Monday (June 23), Vulcan County downgraded their Fire Restriction to a Fire Advisory because it had received sufficient moisture.

Fire Permits in Vulcan County are being issued again, but may be revoked without notice if conditions deteriorate, and if a Fire Ban or Restriction is reimposed, all open fires must be fully and immediately extinguished.

Because vegetation can dry out quickly after a rainfall, the Advisories can be moved back to either a Restriction or Ban with little or no notice, depending on changing conditions.

All Fire Advisories, Restrictions, and Bans can be found here.
