Roughly 45 minutes northwest of Weyburn on Highway 33 is the village of Sedley. With a population of 361 people (according to the Village of Sedley), the need for a daycare centre has been evident for years. Thankfully, the Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Centre is able to fill that need with a brand-new daycare centre at 413 Prairie Ave, right beside the Sedley School. Kelsey Morrison, board chair with the Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Centre, states almost two years of work will finally come to fruition just next week.
“We're going to be opening to families in Sedley and in the surrounding area officially on July 2nd. So, the children are enrolled, and our staff are hired and we're ready to open our doors on July 2nd, but we are going to be hosting a ribbon cutting celebration on June 30th at 10:00 AM.”
They’ve invited everyone from Sedley and the surrounding areas to celebrate the grand opening that has been in the works since August 2023. They will have activities for kids, door prizes and light refreshments and dainties for people as well.
The process of building a brand-new daycare centre is not an easy one. It takes planning, time, money, and investment from everyone in the Sedley area to accomplish. Morrison talks about the time and effort from those that have helped shape the centre from just a piece of land to a place where kids can learn and grow.
“We've really been working to get this centre built. Thousands of hours between the folks that sit on our boards and so many volunteers from our community that actually used, you know, their bare hands to build our centre. So yeah, it's an insane achievement and we're very proud of the work we put in.”
